    I've returned to volunteering for Vernon Emergency Support Services after a couple year break.

    As part of an on-call team we are dispatched to flooded/burned apartments/houses. We provide people with 2-3 days accommodations, make sure their pets are taken care of, provide vouchers for food etc. The funds come from the government but almost everyone is a volunteer. Sometimes people are on the street just in their pajamas. We sometimes evacuate them to a nearby location so they are…

We provide people with 2-3 days accommodations, make sure their pets are taken care of, provide vouchers for food etc. The funds come from the government but almost everyone is a volunteer. Sometimes people are on the street just in their pajamas. We sometimes evacuate them to a nearby location so they are safe and get them from there into hotels. It is critical support people need in these kinds of situations.

    During fire season, our teams also run evacuation centers.

It also included geospatializing Metis oral hunting knowledge and an extensive biographic history of almost all persons involved in the North American fur trade industry. It was an amazingly interesting project with lots of new problems to solve. Creating the Geo-Biographical histories of persons in the fur trade…
